INT. CHARLIE HOME DINING ROOM - EVENING

Grand table is laid beautifully. About 10 opulently dressed

aristocrats are finishing dinner and drinking heavily.

They rise for the ladies to leave for the sitting room. When

the men sit down again Charlie moves closer to his younger

               brother.

                                   CHARLIE

Can we talk in my study? Are you

                         drunk!

                                   EDMUND

                         Wot?

                                   CHARLIE

                         Come with me. Excuse us.

INT. CHARLIE HOME STUDY - EVENING

                                   EDMUND

So, why the honour of the fancy

dinner? You finally need me? What

do you need, brother? I'm here for

                         you!

                                   CHARLIE

I hadn't noticed you drinking this

much at dinner, I would have

                         prevented it.

                                   EDMUND

                         Such a bore.

                                   CHARLIE

Where are you living these days?

                                   EDMUND

                         Is that of any significance?

                                   CHARLIE

I would like you to stay here for a

little while. I need help with the

business and with a baby on its way

I will have less time. I'm offering

you a third of the shares,

providing you move in here today.

                                   EDMUND

No need. I actually have a room

somewhere, very fancy I must say,

for my own use when I wish. But I

take the shares thank you very

                         much.

                                   CHARLIE

                         That won't do.

                                   EDMUND

Hire a nanny you tight ass.

                                   CHARLIE

Edmund! It would really mean a lot

to me if you were to stay here for

                         a while.

                                   EDMUND

I hear that. How so brother?

                                   CHARLIE

As I said. I could do with help

running the factory. I am very

sorry you are drunk, I was hoping

                         to have a

                                   EDMUND

This is fun. You need me but you

are embarrassed to tell me why.

                                   CHARLIE

Yes, sure, if that works for you.

                         Will you help me?

                                   EDMUND

The shares are tempting, I admit.

Normally I would want... But I

don't think I need you anymore.

He stands and faces his brother.

                                   EDMUND (CONT'D)

The tables have finally turned and

you still don't respect me enough

to speak the truth. Let's see,

                         helping my desperate brother,

versus going away with the woman

                         who loves me.

                                   CHARLIE

                         No, helping your brother, staying

with your family whilst running a

                         business or, frolicking away your

life with a woman who will never

                         marry you! I'm offering you

                         independence!

                                   EDMUND

Never will you change! Why are you

set on insulting me. Certainly you

would never think I would accept an

offer of pity help. Your arrogance

                         is unbearable, Charlie!

                                   CHARLIE

I beg you calm down. Consider my

offer, and it doesn't have to be

forever, just for now. Tell me what

you want. If ever in the past I was

thinking of myself to much I am

truly sorry, please Edmund, this is

                         different.

                                   EDMUND

                         Why?

                                   CHARLIE

                         I told you..

                                   EDMUND

                         Forget it.
